I am an Assistant Professor in the Colorado School of Public Health's Department of Health Systems, Management & Policy at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I primarily study public child- & family-serving systems, injury and violence epidemiology (specifically, child maltreatment), and the role of social policy in promoting maternal & child health.
I am drawn to theory-driven, epidemiologic models as a means of understanding social problems and systems. My work is motivated by the belief that understanding is a prerequisite for change and I am committed to using empirical evidence as a tool for equity advancement. My current research uses population-based, linked administrative records to better understand the outcomes and trajectories of children and families who encounter welfare and health institutions. I have used large datasets to advance social justice aims at the Children's Data Network, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, the Public Health Foundation of India, the National Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardians ad Litem Association for Children, and the Global Center for Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents, and Children. My work can be found in Child Abuse & Neglect, The Lancet, and BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, among other academic journals.
I earned my Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. In 2017, I completed a Master's in Public Health from the University of Washington and a competitive three-year data science fellowship at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. I attended Colorado College, where I graduated with distinction in Neuroscience.Â
